webAlmanac: the Christian Year
To find the date of Easter Day in any year enter the year and
press return.
By default, for years after 1752, Easter is calculated according to the rules of the Gregorian Calendar, introduced in 1582, and adopted in England in September 1752. For years to 1752, the Julian Calendar is used. Alternatively, you may force the use of the Gregorian or Julian Calendars.
If the All Sundays box is ticked then the Almanac displays all the Sundays in the year, using the Common Worship Calendar of the Church of England. Both Sunday titles and Proper numbers are shown, determing both the Collect and the lectionary. The All Sundays option is only valid from 1997.
webAlmanac can now be used to generate a calendar of the year as an iCalendar (or vCalendar) file that can be loaded directly into an iCalendar-compatible PIM such as the Palm Desktop or Outlook, or as a 'comma separated values' (csv) file suitable for Outlook. To do this, either set the 'Generate vCal file' button and save the Almanac output to a file with the suffix '.vcs' (Outlook will also accept the suffix '.ics'). This file can then be imported into Outlook or into the Palm Desktop (version 4 or later). Other PIMs also support the iCalendar format. Or set the 'Generate Outlook csv file' and save the file with a .csv suffix which can then be imported into Outlook.
webAlmanac is currently implemented in Perl. An earlier version which just provided the date of Easter was implemented using this fragment of C.
