Breakfast Briefing

Chaplaincy to People at Work logo

At every business breakfast that I attend in Cambridgeshire, the sole purpose is networking. That is fine and I, like many others, have certainly benefitted from contacts made at the excellent events organised by Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce.

Breakfast Briefing that is being organised by Chaplaincy to People at Work is a breakfast meeting with a difference. Certainly there will be opportunities for networking. However the main purpose of the meeting will be to listen to one main speaker on an issue that impacts on our work and our workplaces.

On September 29th the first meeting of Breakfast Briefing at 7.30am at Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge will have as its speaker Robert Hallam, Managing Director of John Lewis Cambridge and Norwich. Robert will speak on “Ethical leadership: accelerated or suppressed by recession?

By way of introduction, Robert Hallam writes: “Having spent 21 years within John Lewis since graduating from Warwick University I have taken huge interest in ethical leadership much of which stems from my own Christian faith. Whilst John Lewis is not aligned to any specific faith or denomination it does aim to place honesty, integrity and a sense of caring at the heart of its organisation. As Managing Director of John Lewis both here in Cambridge and in Norwich I have seen many impacts of the current downturn in the economy. Is recession a time to cut ethical corners validated by the need to survive in business or a time to adopt a principle led approach? Can cultural values become a driver for commercial success in tough times?

Robert hopes to explore some of these questions when we meet in September. Further details of the event are below.
