Church in Community

What do you want to start with?

There are very many worthwhile topics that a parish could pursue, an embarrassment of riches. Which you chose will depend on local circumstances, e.g. whether there are local people with particular expertise or enthusiasm, or pressing local issues, or congregation members have a concern laid upon them.

The following pages contain a select list of topic ideas developed from the Eco-Congregation's module choice list (the number of the relevant module is given on each page; the module booklets can be downloaded from their website). A Rocha also has a handy list of ideas on their website.

Community Campaigning

As examples of how you might be led by circumstance, perhaps someone is a good naturalist or is keen to green their lifestyle; perhaps the churchyard needs attention or the electricity supply contract is being reviewed; maybe there is the threat of a major development or the opportunity of designating a local nature reserve; there could be a building project or a consultation on how to reach families and children and might an eco-group attract new people.

In order to discern to which topics God is leading a parish, we recommend a review such as the audit in Eco-Congregation's first module found under resources on http://www.ecocongregation.org/englandwales/. CEL also offer an audit on their site: http://www.christian-ecology.org.uk/
