Confirmation
Confirmation is the second half of initiation into the Anglian church when candidates renew their baptismal vows and are anointed with oil. In the early church believers were baptised, anointed and brought to their first communion within one service; this practice still happens if candidates have not been baptised as infants. Confirmation should take place within a main communion service.
Confirmation is always carried out by a bishop. The bishop asks the candidates to confirm publicly the promises made at their baptism; he then places his hands on each individual's head and prays “Confirm,
O Lord, this your servant N with your Holy Spirit.” The congregation then prays for the candidates and welcomes them.
