- I wonder what happens at a Baptism?
STORY
Tell the Story slowly using the objects:
Use pauses and give the children time to ponder your actions and words
I wonder what this is for? It's very white, white's a special colour in church. It's the colour of something clean, something pure Place white cloth on table
I wonder what this is for? It's a bowl? Perhaps it's for washing? We use a bowl in church, it's called a font. We use it for Baptising people.
Place Bowl on the cloth,
Anyone can be baptised, babies, children, teenagers, adults, elderly people. Some of you have been baptised.Perhaps you may have been old enough be old remember Move hand round group
When someone is baptised A cross is put on their forehead. A sign of Gods love and forgiveness. The sign of Jesus Make a cross with your finger in the air. Place cross on the table
Water: Water for washing, Making things clean, We need water to live, Pour water into the font
When someone is baptised they are baptised with water they are washed, they are made clean. Lift up the water with fingers. They are baptised in the name of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Lift up the water three times.
When they are baptised we light a special candle. The candle reminds us of Jesus. Place big candle on the table. Light the big candle. They are given a candle. They are given some of the light from the big candle. They take that candle and the light home with them. They remember that Jesus is the light. They remember that Jesus is with them. Take a small candle. Light it from the big candle.
When people are baptised they belong to God. They are children of God
REFLECTION
Quietly think about these things to yourself
I wonder what part of that you liked best?
I wonder what part of this was the most important
I wonder if any part is special to you?
