All Good Gifts Around Us
Foreword by the Bishop of Ely
Dr Anthony Russell
We live in a period of rapid and accelerating change - a characteristic of modern life. It is necessary for the Church to respond to changes in society and develop new perceptions of its own ministry and mission.
This report is the considered reflection of a group which has been working at these issues during the last 18 months. It is important for the Diocese to have a document which focuses these issues in such a clear and helpful way.
I am immensely grateful to the working group, and particularly to Bishop John who has played the leading role in writing this report. As a former Archbishop once said, to write a substantial piece in the midst of a busy life is a very demanding task. The Diocese owes a great debt to Bishop John for his concern to address new thinking in the area of ministry.
The report has important implications for the life of our Diocese and for its central structures. It is good that there is to be an implementation group which will carry the concerns of this report forward once it has been received by Diocesan Synod.
I commend this report to the Diocese with renewed thanks to those who have spent much time in its production.
