Mission Action Planning

Introduction

Mission Action Planning is a Diocesan initiative launched in 2008.

Every parish in the Diocese is asked to prepare its own Mission Action Plan (MAP). These plans will then be sent to the Rural Dean so that he or she knows what is happening in the Deanery and can therefore encourage parishes engaged in similar projects to talk to one another.

MAPs should also be sent to the relevant Archdeacon and to the Bishop of Huntington. This is to help the Diocese target its resources to help parishes achieve their goals. This might be through directed Officer time or by putting on conferences with a specific theme.

In 2009 the Diocese is celebrating 900 years of it existence and a major strand in those celebrations is looking ahead. MAP help parishes plan for the future and so when the Archbishops of Canterbury and York are come to the Diocese to take part in the Ely 900 celebrations parish MAPs will be presented to the Archbishops.

The following links give information about how to prepare a MAP and there is an introductory DVD available if parishes wish to have one.

It is hoped that the MAP process allows parishes to have a conversation with itself. At PCC level, with the congregationand even with the wider community. MAP encourages parishes to think about what they are currently doing, what God is calling them to do in the future and finally to think and pray through the resourcing of those ides. MAP is about turning vision into reality.

Mission accompaniers or PCC away day facilitators are available. For further information about these or anything else concerned with Mission Action Planning please contact Hugh McCurdy, the Archdeacon of Huntingdon and Wisbech.
