Admission of new Canons

A major service will take place in Ely Cathedral this afternoon (Sunday 4 December at 4pm) as 17 new Honorary Canons are licensed and installed.

The Bishop of Ely, Rt Revd Stephen Conway, will be presiding over the Service at which Lay Canons and an Ecumenical Canon will be among those admitted.

A large congregation is expected to attend.

Those to be installed are: Mr John Harrison, Cathedral Administrator; Mrs Janet Perrett, Chair House of Laity; Mrs Sue Freestone, Head King’s School, Ely; Mr Graham Shorter, Diocesan Secretary; Mrs Kate Aylmer, Senior Vocations Adviser; Prof David Ford, Regius Professor of Divinity; The Revd David Evans, Rector Hilgay with Ten Mile Bank and Southery; The Revd Paul Hills, Regional Minister for the Central Sector and Team Leader Baptist Church; The Revd Philipa King, Team Rector of Cambridge The Ascension; The Revd Professor Sarah Coakley, Norris-Hulse.

Bishop Conway said today: “This is a great service of celebration because we acknowledge under God what each of these individuals offers to the Diocese, the Cathedral and most important of all, to the local and wider community. I am very much looking forward to it!
