Bishop opens garden to various groups
The Bishop of Ely, Stephen Conway, will be hosting two garden parties at Bishop’s House this week.
The first will be for Clergy families (26 June) followed, two days later, by a similar event for Headteachers and School Governors (28 June).
For the first celebration, all clergy families with children under 10 have been invited, as well as the children from the Cathedral Sunday Club.
In the glorious garden at Bishop’s House there will be a marquee, an entertainer, a bouncy castle and a visit from the Cathedral ice-cream ‘cart’.
There will be a similar air of celebration on the 28 June when Headteachers and School Governors arrive.
The Bishop has stressed his commitment to supporting and encouraging all those involved in Christian education: “I want to stress the importance of my support for school leaders, including governors and parochial clergy and to demonstrate the place of the schools at the centre of our life as a Diocese.”
He added: “I went to address a School Leaders’ Conference soon after I arrived in the Diocese and this first in a series of annual garden parties is the relational enforcement of this commitment.”
In the Diocese of Ely there are 82 church schools, one of which is a secondary school.
