Bishop’s Lecture

The Bishop of Ely, Rt Revd Stephen Conway, will be delivering an Advent lecture entitled “The Bible and Friendship” on Thursday (8 December at 7.30pm) in Ely Cathedral.

Bishop Conway’s is the last in a year-long series of lectures organised to mark the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Version of the Bible. (www.kingjamesbibletrust.org)

The King James Bible is an English translation of the Christian Bible. It was begun in 1604 after James I was persuaded that a new translation was needed and ordered work to begin.

It was completed in 1611.

The Bible and Friendship is a fascinating theme and I hope to grapple with some of the obvious and not so obvious themes around what we mean by Friendship in terms of Scripture more widely,” said Bishop Conway today.

The lecture will be taking place in the South Transept area of the Cathedral and all are welcome to attend.

Thursday 8 December 2011, 7.30pm at Ely Cathedral, £2 on the door.
