Bishop joins community to bless new facility
The Bishop of Ely, Stephen Conway, will join the community at Little St Mary (LSM) Cambridge on Sunday Morning (5 June, 10.30) to bless the new parish room extension which will enable the Church to do more work in the community.
Fr Mark Bishop, Assistant Priest, said today: “This is the culmination of years of fund-raising and planning. The project has a strong social outreach emphasis and exemplifies the role the Church could be playing in a properly functional Big Society.”
The new Parish Centre is the culmination of several years’ fundraising to realise the vision for extending opportunities for Christian ministry to the City of Cambridge.
LSM is a city centre church which seeks to be outward looking and welcoming to those who are in need, as well as those enquirers and those who wish to learn more about the Christian faith.
Fr Bishop explained: “We hope to be able to provide more opportunities to help those recovering from mental illness (an area where we have been active in recent years), as well as other practical social outreach projects. There continues to be a need for the Church to go out and engage with people who are in need but who remain at a distance from the Church for whatever reason.”
