900th Anniversary Celebrations

The Bishop of Ely, Stephen Conway, will join in the 900th anniversary celebrations of St Margaret of Antioch, Chippenham, tomorrow (Sunday 17 July 10.30am) when he leads a service of celebration and thanksgiving.

Chippenham is now part of the Three Rivers group of parishes and all the congregations of the group will be joining with St Margaret's for the Service.

A brass band from three schools at Fordham, Isleham and Kennett will play a fanfare to welcome the Bishop at the start of the service which will be followed by a Vicarage Garden Party Lunch.

St Margaret’s displays some evidence of its Norman foundation in rounded arches indicating doorways and windows. In 1446, part of the village was burnt down and the fire damaged the interior of the church. After the fire, much of the church was rebuilt.

It should be a great celebration of a long and fascinating history,” said Bishop Conway today.
