Cathedral Lectures in Ely welcome excellent speakers

Ely Cathedral will welcome Dr Elaine Storkey this Saturday (14 May 10.00am-3.00pm) at the Cathedral Centre in Ely as part of the series of Ely Cathedral Lectures 2011 marking the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.

Dr Storkey will be leading a day on ‘The Bible and Social Responsibility,’ including sessions on The Bible & Poverty, The Bible and Women and The Bible and Justice.

Dr Storkey said today: “I’m very honoured and excited to be leading sessions surrounding the Bible during such a monumental period for the King James Bible.”

Everyone is welcome to attend.

The following week Dr Melvin Bragg will give a lecture in the Cathedral on Monday 16th May (7.30pm) followed by Gordon Jackson’s lecture on ‘The Bible as Poetry,’ exploring the ‘Banquet of love.’ on 22nd May at 5.15pm also in the Cathedral.

Lectures offered by Prof Richard Bauckham (The Bible & the Environment) and Dr Adrian Chatfield (The Bible & Prayer) are scheduled for early June.

The series continues throughout the year ending with the Bishop of Ely’s lecture on 8th December.
