Getting to know and celebrate

The Bishop of Ely, Rt Revd Stephen Conway, will be hosting a Christmas Party at Bishop’s House on Wednesday (14 December at 7pm) for ordinands in training who are sponsored by the Diocese of Ely.

The evening will be an opportunity for the Bishop to meet a number of candidates for the first time  and to celebrate the encouraging numbers of people going forward for different types of ministry in the Diocese.

The party will also be the last occasion at which Canon Vanessa Herrick, the current Director of Ordinands and Director of Ministry and Vocation, will be present with this group before she takes up her new post as Rector of Wimborne Minster.

The evening will begin with Evensong in Ely Cathedral (5.30pm) at which Vanessa’s contribution to the Diocese will be acknowledged.

Bishop Conway said today: “I remain very encouraged by the quality and number of those who are coming forward and saying that they have a vocation to serve the church through a variety of ministries and the evening will, of course, be a celebration. But it will also be an important ‘getting to know you’ session which I am greatly looking forward to.
