Bishop’s visit to mark special events

The Bishop of Ely, Stephen Conway, will dedicate a new hall, kitchen and classroom when he visits Holme Primary School on Friday (9 September , 9.45am).

There will be a special school assembly and a commemorative bookmark will be presented to every child. A specially made cake, in the shape of the new hall, will be cut during the Bishop’s visit. He will also have a chance to tour the school and speak to the children.

Bishop Conway will also see an exhibition of photos and artefacts from the new build which has taken eight years from the initial conception to completion. He will officially dedicate and declare open the new buildings and unveil a plaque.

Bishop Conway said today: “The effort put in at Holme over almost a decade of planning, preparation, work and change has been incredible and it is a real tribute to the school that they have come to this particular moment in the current economic climate. I am very much looking forward to meeting the children and staff and to celebrating these wonderful new facilities.

Mrs Jo Walker, Headteacher at Holme CoE Primary School, said: “The project has really improved the environment for all the children and teachers. The extra space the hall has created is a huge bonus. With the additional funds that come with the building, we have been able to furnish the Foundation Stage class with new modern furniture and purchase a beautiful new altar.
