Little Paxton seeking support for Bell Appeal

Little Paxton bell

Peter Hagger , Treasurer of Little Paxton, writes:

Little Paxton Has Bell Appeal has reached the finals of the National Lottery - People's Millions Programme which will take place on 24th November 2010.  That day the project will feature in the ITV 'Anglia Tonight' programme between 6pm and 6.30pm.  Telephone voting will take place throughout the day.

If we win we get £50,000 - if we lose, nothing - so every vote counts.

Our project is: Little Paxton Has Bell Appeal

Our bells in St James' Church have not been rung regularly for about 100 years. One of the bells was made in St Neots in 1791 by John Taylor and the company we are using to do the bell work, John Taylor & Co, is effectively that same company. The clock is unique and is also thought to have been made at John Taylor's works in St Neots although we cannot be precise regarding its age.

At present the bells are hung in an ancient wooden bell frame thought to be from about 1700 and as part of the project will be preserved, but a new steel frame will be constructed to take the existing four bells plus a further two second hand bells. A small twenty four inch bell will be hung in the old frame to be used for when the clock chimes. The clock face was restored as the Village Millennium Project and it is fitting that the movement is now restored.

Telephone voting is from 9am until midnight on Wednesday 24th November 2010.

Anyone in the UK can vote up to 10 times from each telephone, calls from BT landlines cost just 10p (mobile and other operators charges may vary). If voting from a company it is likely that only a total of 10 calls can be made.

Voting is only possible by telephone.

The telephone number is not available until the 24th and this is how you can get the number:

  • Send an email now to peter@hagger.org and you will receive an email on 24th giving the number.
  • The number will be on Little Paxton church web site from about 7am - www.littlepaxtonchurch.org.uk.
  • It will also be available on the Peoples Millions web site from 9am.  This is our page on the web site and you can get information about the project there as well as registering your support.
  • The number will also appear in that day's Daily Mirror.

If you can vote for us on the 24th we will be very grateful. Better still if you can also encourage other to vote for us great.

If you use Facebook you will find a Little Paxton Has Bell Appeal group - join it now.

On the 24th November we are up against The Northampton & Lamport Railway Preservation Society who are a much bigger organisation than St James Church so we need as much support as possible.

Remember only 10p per call and 10 calls from each telephone line. So just £1 for 10 votes.
