The Olympics - one year to go!

With exactly one year to go before the start of the London 2012 Olympics,  Revd Tim Hayward, Assistant Curate at Buckden with The Offords, has been appointed as the Diocese of Ely’s 'More Than Gold' Missioner for 2012.

London 2012 will run from 27 July – 12 August 2012 and the Paralympics 29 August – 9 September 2012.

Tim is also on the National Olympic and Paralympic Forum for the Church of England sharing ideas and resources with other Diocesan representatives.

His role is to encourage churches and communities throughout this Diocese to engage with the opportunities the Games present such as community festivals, street parties, holiday clubs, school assemblies and visits to the Paralympics.

There is also the possibility to offer hospitality to competitors and visitors and to host joint events with sports clubs, village halls and parish councils.

Tim said today: “The key thing is to do one or two things well and work together as churches in the community. I am happy to come and speak to church groups, deanery groups and Churches Together groups across the region to offer support and ideas.”
