On The Edge launches
St Edward’s, Cambridge re-launch their “Goth Eucharist” as ‘On The Edge’ tonight (6 September, 8pm).
The Goth Eucharist (www.thegotheucharist.org.uk ) began at St Edward’s in January 2006 and has attracted a lot of publicity as it spread around the world.
Like the Goth Eucharist, ‘On the Edge’ aims to connect with people who have a strong sense of the darkness of life, and may feel alienated from normal church services.
It brings together contemporary secular music with Christian worship. Goths are obviously welcome, as well as others who do not necessarily think of themselves as Goths.
There will be an Amy Winehouse special at the first ‘On the Edge’ tomorrow. Her albums and the sad story of her death have moved many people and raised a lot of issues.
Canon Fraser Watts, Vicar-Chaplain of St Edward’s Cambridge, said today: “The battle in Amy Winehouse between creativity and self-destruction comes over clearly in her music, and raises important issues for many people.”
Malcolm Guite (www.thegotheucharist.org.uk) will talk about Amy’s life, music and her death.
