Prayers for Prince Philip in Ely Cathedral

The Bishop of Ely, The Rt Revd Stephen Conway began his address at the Midnight Mass at Ely Cathedral by sending prayers and good wishes to HM The Queen and Prince Philip.

Prince Philip is currently in Papworth Hospital which is in the Diocese of Ely.

Bishop Conway told the large congregation: “Our first thought tonight is for Prince Philip, in hospital in the Diocese. We pray for him and for Her Majesty the Queen and the whole Royal family.”

The Bishop this year released a Christmas message on his diocesan website www.ely.anglican.org in which he interviewed a local GP about dealing with illness and sickness at Christmastide.

He said: “Some of you may have seen my Christmas video in which Dr Dee McCormack, a local Ely GP, makes the point that Christmas can be a busy time for doctors as families travel to be with loved ones and are taken ill away from home.

He added: “For all of us, I should like to thank all those in our community who are working tonight and at any time over the holiday period to keep us safe, to ensure that we are fed and served and cared for when needed.
