Rave in the Nave
Ely Cathedral will host their annual Christian youth outreach event ‘Rave in the Nave’ (www.raveinthenave.com) for young people [aged 12 and over] on Friday 15 July (7.15pm-12am).
The Ecumenical Event includes all the major Christian denominations and national Christian youth organisations and regularly sees over 1100 young people in attendance with their youth leaders.
This is the nineteenth year that the Diocese has hosted the event and is the only Diocese offering this type of experience in the East of England.
The children will enjoy bundles of activity as the Nave, North and South Transept’s and the Lady Chapel will all see dramatic makeovers for the day. Activities ranging from giant inflatable games to tightrope walking will be some of the highlights for the children in attendance.
Organisers have gone to the extreme lengths of installing real special effects from BBC1's Doctor Who’s Tardis.
The Diocese of Ely Youth Officer, David Waters, said today: “Young people can take their own pictures standing beside this most famous British television's icon.”
A huge team effort is required for the Cathedral’s dramatic transformation. Mr Waters explains: “The Octagon space is converted into a stage and dance-floor area, the Lady Chapel is transformed into ‘The Chill-out Café’, whilst the Refectory is home to a series of youth leader training workshops. All of this takes a lot of time and a massive team effort.”
There will also be a worship which is led by the Rave in the Nave's resident worship band ‘Empire Nation’.
Entry is by ticket only (£10 per person) and these can be purchased at the West Door of Ely Cathedral on the evening of Rave in the Nave (15 July).
