Bishop recognises “talent, effort and dedication”
Bishop Stephen was present at a special service of Choral Evensong in Ely Cathedral earlier this month when awards from the Royal School of Church Music (www.rscm.com) were presented to candidates who have reached the required standard of musicianship.
The Bishop handed out medals along with the Dean of Ely, Michael Chandler.
All the award winners shared in the singing of Evensong with the Cathedral Choir. This is the second year in which awards have been open and presented to adults as well.
They were supported by family and friends at the service.
Bishop Conway said today: “I have always greatly enjoyed of choral music and this should be a very special occasion. Recognising the talent, effort and dedication of those who sing in English Cathedrals is an important part of the work of RSCM which I am delighted to support.”
The RSCM provides a complementary system of awards to support the choir trainer and affirm the Voice for Life levels achieved within the choir. These Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are designed to be assessed through formal examination.
