Vellore Link

The Diocese of Ely has offered Christians an opportunity to visit the Diocese of Vellore in South India, with which the Cambridgeshire Ecumenical Council has strong links, at the beginning of next year.

Amongst those visiting will be Revd Graham Thompson, Chair of Ecumenical Council and Chairman of East Anglia District (Methodist Church) and Janet Scott, Chair of the Vellore Link Support Group and Society of Friends.

The trip has been organised between 14th-31st January 2012 in order for people to have the opportunity to meet the fellow Christians and glean more about challenges and opportunities for mission.

The Diocese of Vellore is in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and centres on the town of Vellore itself. It is part of the Church of South India, a united church since 1947, made up from the Anglican, Methodist , Presbyterian and Congregational churches.

Cambridgeshire Ecumenical Council have been linked with the Diocese of Vellore since 1992. In 1998 an agreement was signed which aimed to work together and strengthen their links of Christian fellowship.

Participants will need to commit to three evenings of preparation before the visit.  It is hoped that all participants will be prepared to talk to groups in their area about their experiences and further the work of the link.

The cost of the trip is £1300.
