Two new Vocations Advisers, Mary-Jane Jorden and the Revd Kylie Hodgins, were commissioned by the Rt Revd Stephen Conway at the Diocesan Synod on Saturday 19th March 2011.

Vocations Advisers are appointed by the Bishop and are equipped to discern and to give information about a range of vocational training and opportunities. As well as selection and training for ordination, they assist people to explore opportunities for lay ministry, full and part-time. These include:

  • Licensed Lay Ministry (Reader Ministry)
  • Authorised Lay Ministry
  • The Church Army
  • Religious communities

As well as working one-to-one, the members of the Vocations Team are available to support parishes through the setting up of Vocations Groups, through speaking in deaneries and parishes, and through a range of Diocesan events.

The Revd Kylie Hodgins was born and grew up in Australia. She came to England for what she thought would be a year or two of work and travel - but has now spent half her life in England! She worked in the catering industry before training for ordination at Ridley Hall. She is Priest-in-Charge of Cottenham and Rampton, two villages just north of Cambridge, and loves the joys and challenges of parish life in a diverse community.

Mary Jane Jorden was born and brought up in Guernsey and then left for the mainland to study and eventually teach French at secondary level, stopping when the children arrived. Since then there have been various posts, mostly voluntary, but all dealing directly with people. Currently she is Pastoral Assistant for young families at St Andrew's, Histon, having completed the Ely Diocesan Authorised Lay Ministry course.
