Uganda walkers are met by Delia Smith
£30,000 and counting...aiming to raise £50,000 for a school in Uganda
Jeremy Summerell, Martin Muir, Canon Richard Darmody and Alan Howard with Delia Smith at Carrow Road
Canon Richard Darmody, Team Rector of The Ramseys and Upwood, and a team of walkers were met at Carrow Road football club on Saturday 6th March at the end of their walk from Ely Cathedral to raise money for The Bishop's School in south-west Uganda.
The group met Delia Smith and her husband Michael at The Gunn Room, the exclusive restaurant at Carrow Road. Delia took a great interest in their venture and has indicated that she is interested in being further involved in this very worthy charitable project. The group were treated to a three course meal and a bottle of white wine, all on the house. Later they were introduced to the members of the Gunn Room and given an ovation. To round off their perfect day they were also given free tickets for that afternoon's match in which Norwich triumphed over Yeovil 3-0.
Richard is hoping to raise £50,000 for equipment and to help towards building a dorm at The Bishop's School in south-west Uganda which he has visited with his wife June on various occasions. The total is now over £30,000 but Richard is optimistic that once the donations from his walk are included, together with support from Delia and others at Carrow Road that this will rise significantly.
Donations: If you wish to contribute send a cheque made out to 'St Thomas a Becket PCC' and mark it, for the 'Walk for Uganda.' Send it to me, Canon Richard Darmody, 16, Hollow Lane, Ramsey, Cambs, PE26 1DE.
