Vacancy in the See of Ely
Following the announcement of the retirement of the Right Reverend Dr. Anthony Russell, Bishop of Ely in January 2010, the See of Ely fell vacant on 28 February 2010.
The process for finding a new Bishop of Ely is in progress. From November 30th - December 2nd 2009 the two Appointments Secretaries, Caroline Boddington (Archbishops’ Secretary for Appointments) and Paul Britton (Prime Minister’s Secretary for Appointments) visited the Diocese to interview a wide range of representatives from local civic, social and religious life. They also held a well attended public consultation meeting in Ely Cathedral.
On Tuesday December 1st the Ely Diocese Vacancy in See Committee met to elect the Crown Nominations Commission Ely Diocesan elected members. The Vacancy in See Committee produced A Description of the Diocese and Statement of Needs following these consultations and the written comments received up to the closing date of 7th December 2009.
