St Mary’s The Parish Church of Buckden Newsletter, July/August 2010

Newsletter, July/August 2010

Dear Friends

A double issue of the newsletter can mean only one thing: that during the summer ‘holiday’ months there is sufficiently less happening for us to be able to squeeze two months worth of notices into one newsletter! Actually, there is plenty happening – do check the dates overleaf, and continue to enjoy an active St Mary’s, as well as hopefully getting a break at some point, if you can.

In the mean time, in our worship we are now well and truly into ‘ordinary time’ – in which we concentrate not on the major festivals and the ebb and flow of the seasons of the church year, but on simply growing in faith, just as our gardens are growing. This is a good time to have a look at our journey of faith, and work out where we are and where we might be going – and to think about what resources (spiritually speaking, as well as practically) might help us to grow. Plants grow upwards, but they also grow downwards – one of the best things we can do for our life of faith is to put our ‘roots’ down deep into the ground. Such roots might include revisiting the basics of our faith, perhaps undertaking some bible reading or study, or maybe reflecting on how our faith weaves its way into everyday life.

Once the Autumn comes, it would be lovely to start some new groups (meeting either regularly or occasionally) to help our ‘growing deeper‘ to continue, as we accompany each other where God is leading us.

Yours in Christ, Ally

New Groups from September / October

Tim will be starting a new Foundations Group, either in Buckden or Offord (or if numbers demand it, both!) – if you would like to brush up on the basics of the faith, in an informal and safe environment, please do contact Tim on 819665 or curate@stmarysbuckden.org.uk

We are hoping to start a new Bible Study group of some kind – please contact Ally if you might be interested in joining this, or if you have ideas about what sort of Bible Study might be most helpful to people.

There are plans for a daytime Discussion, Reflection and Fellowship group, hopefully including a crèche – please contact Denise Grant or Beth Hayward if you might be interested in taking part or helping.

We come together in church to worship God, to hear His word and to share the Good news of Jesus,
receiving forgiveness and renewal through His death and resurrection.

We are sent out from church to live as Christian disciples, showing love to others
and living out our faith in all we think, say and do.
