The PCC of Great St Mary's

The Work of the Parochial Church Council

The PCC has met regularly throughout the year with five business meetings and one social event. The Committee structure that we have enables the Council to short circuit some of the more routine discussion, the meetings are purposeful and produce some sound results. Progress has been made in obtaining Faculties for repairs to the roof and the extension of the sound system to the galleries. Agreement has also been reached on proposals for improving the Choir and Chancel lighting.

A considerable amount of time has been spent on establishing a satisfactory allocation of funding, both for our own needs and those of charitable organisations at home and overseas, selected by Wider Concerns. The Finance Committee has also been able to achieve good results for the year by both the sound management of expenditure and the good use of resources available.

Much of the other work of the PCC has been devoted to maintaining and improving the outreach of Great St Mary's to the community and the University, and it is hoped that during the next few months the Neighbourhood Links arrangements will become more positive. Discussion has also been held on how far or fast we need to move into the world of computer technology. Other matters discussed which appear in detail under the Committees' entries in this Annual Report related to the Healing Ministry, Communion before Confirmation, Child Protection and new hymn books. There are of course ongoing matters to which we shall devote more time in the future. The PCC remains a sound basis for controlling and progressing our affairs and for disseminating information through to the congregation.
