Web site of St Johns Church, Cambridge: technical stuff
Technologies and acknowledgements
This web site makes use of a number of technologies.
- The various effects have been achieved using the MooTools javascript framework (see also this Wikipedia article describing MooTools). We had contemplated using jquery, but it turned out that some of the coolest stuff (in our view) has been developed using mootools.
- The accordion menu along the top was achieved using the Phatfusion's ImageMenu plugin. I really liked the improvements in the new version; well done chaps!
- The image galleries with changing photographs were achieved using JonDesign's SmoothGallery. We used the latest development version that has been designed to work with the most recent release of MooTools
- The coverflow-like image browser on some pages was achieved using MooFlow.
- The news feeds are displayed using Google's Ajax Feed API, with the feeds coming from Google's Blogger tool.
- The main coding was carried out using Panic's Coda web development tool. The code conforms to the XHTML v1.1 standard.
The fantastic thing has been how many people have generously made their tools available free of charge and usage restrictions, thinking here particularly of the MooTools library and applications, together with Google. We are very grateful.
