The Choir has been busy preparing music for various occasions, including two episcopal visits. For the Bishop of Ely, we sang the simple but beautiful introit God be in my head by Walford Davies, a Taizé chant, and as on other Sundays recently, the very melodic Sanctus, Benedictus, and Acclamations from the Gathering Mass. For Bishop Edwin’s visit to dedicate the new nave altar, we sang the gradual for the dedication of a church Locus iste a Deo factus est by Anton Bruckner. The Choir had also sung during the signing of the register at a wedding the day before Lead me, Lord by S.S. Wesley. The organist and choir fees were donated to choir funds, from which we shall be able to purchase music and other necessary items, without having to be too much of a burden on the church’s General Account. At the Hymns of Praise on 25 August, the Congregation’s favourite ten hymns were sung with gusto by all present, ably accompanied by Tony Talbot. Before the service, the new choir albs, funded by generous donations, were dedicated in memory of Ethel Dixon and Harry White. On 21 September, members of the Choir will be singing at the RSCM Choirs’ Festival at King’s College Cambridge, which all are welcome to attend. We still hope to hear from new singers in the congregation. Don’t be shy!
