The New Vicar: the Revd James Pullen

It was announced on Sunday 8th April 2001 that the next Vicar of St Ives is to be the Revd James Pullen, who is currently the Second Master of Haileybury College in Hertfordshire. He will be instituted and inducted as Vicar on 17th August 2001.

Fr James studied Maths at Queen Mary College, London, and then Theology at Linacre College Oxford. He taught in Manchester for a while before training for the priesthood at St Stephen's House, Oxford. After ordination he was a curate for five years in Manchester and then Doncaster. He moved to Orpington in Surrey as a school chaplain, and a few years later to Haileybury College in Hertfordhire. At Haileybury, he also taught maths, and was for a time Head of the Maths department. Recently he has been the school's Second Master (equivalent to a deputy head).

He has also worked in the local parish, Great Amwell with St Margaret, whilst at Haileybury.

He is married to Norma and they have two children who are now both married.

He is a member of Forward in Faith and a Priest Associate of Walsingham.

Fr James writes:

I feel greatly honoured by the offer of the living of St Ives. All Saints is a beautiful building in which worship can truly be seen to be at the heart of all that we do. The Church here has a wonderful, Catholic tradition which I gladly embrace. I look forward to working with all the present congregation so that we may open up the riches of its treasures to more and more of the people of our parish.
